NZ CPI came in above forecast and well above the previous read, which is the kind of surprise that tends to put rate cut expectations under pressure for the RBNZ. Not my main patch but worth noting, especially for anything touching NZD crosses. As always with these prints, the initial reaction and the follow-through can tell very different stories, so worth watching how it settles rather than chasing the first move. New Zealand CPI came in a touch above forecast for the quarter, and the jump from the previous reading is pretty notable. That kind of upside surprise can firm up expectations around RBNZ policy, which tends to give NZD a bit of a lift, though how far it runs depends on broader risk sentiment at the time.
